Three different service needs

Which suspension system needs attention?

A worn shock absorber, leaking air spring and hydraulic pressure fault need different parts and tests. The model and fitted suspension specification establish the starting point.

Knocks, movement and uneven tire wear

A suspension noise is a starting observation, not a parts list. Bushings, joints, mounts and links can produce similar sounds, while steering, brakes or a wheel bearing can also contribute.

Book an inspection for a knock over bumps, movement under braking or a change in how the car tracks. Tell us whether it comes from the front or rear and which road conditions bring it on. You do not need to identify the component yourself.

Control arms and their joints keep the wheel located as the suspension moves. A repair may involve a serviceable bushing, an individual joint or the complete arm, depending on the design and condition. A complete arm is not always interchangeable with a bushing-only repair.

Uneven tire wear also needs the tires and alignment considered. Any damaged or loose component should be resolved before relying on an alignment adjustment to hold the correct geometry.

Suspension repair estimates

Compare like-for-like work. A single air spring, a complete air strut and a pair of conventional dampers are different purchases, even if each is described as a suspension repair.

An initial suspension assessment is estimated at AED 200–400 including VAT. It covers accessible mechanical checks and relevant fault assessment; extended hydraulic or intermittent testing may need more time.

Repair scopeEstimated total, AED
One applicable suspension arm, supplied and fitted700–1,500
Pair of conventional shock absorbers, selected models1,600–3,200
Pair of applicable coil springs, supplied and fitted1,200–2,600
One replacement air spring, selected applications1,400–2,800
One complete replacement air strut, selected applications2,500–5,000
Air-compressor replacement, selected applications1,800–3,500
Wheel alignment when required after repair250–450

Indicative totals include the stated new compatible parts, standard fitting, job-related checks and 5% VAT. Genuine Mercedes parts, electronic dampers and uncommon systems can cost more. Alignment is separately listed and included only when stated in the repair quote. Mounts, damaged fittings or other worn components are additional only when required and agreed. Hydraulic repairs are quoted after the affected circuit is identified.

Suspension parts and repair services

Choose the work already identified, or arrange a general inspection if the source of the problem remains uncertain. The fitted design determines whether individual parts or a larger assembly can be replaced.

Shock absorbers

Weak damping can allow repeated movement after a bump. Leakage, mounts and the matching damper on the same axle need checking when deciding the replacement scope.

Strut assemblies

A strut may combine several functions in one assembly. Confirm whether the quote covers the damper, spring, mount or complete unit, particularly with electronic or air-supported designs.

Coil springs

A broken or weakened spring affects support and ride height. Replacement requires the correct spring specification rather than choosing by appearance or vehicle weight alone.

Lower control arms

Bushings, joints and arm condition affect the repair choice. Access, the number of arms involved and any alignment work determine the complete estimate.

Upper control arms

Play in an upper arm or joint needs to be assessed with the rest of the wheel location points. Replacing only the visibly damaged part may leave another worn connection unresolved.

Air suspension compressors

A compressor running frequently may be responding to a leak elsewhere. The air circuit and control signals need checking so a replacement unit is not left working against the same fault.

Sinking, uneven height or frequent compressor operation

AIRMATIC needs a complete check

A car sitting low after parking needs the leaking or incorrectly controlled part identified. An air spring, line connection, valve block, compressor or height signal can affect the result.

Assessment should distinguish a component that loses pressure from a system unable to replenish it. Replacing a compressor without addressing a significant leak can leave the new unit carrying the same excessive demand.

After the repair, the system needs the relevant function and leak checks. Height calibration is carried out when the vehicle and procedure require it. Calibration does not repair a damaged air spring or worn mechanical connection.

Some vehicles combine different suspension technologies. We identify the fitted equipment before deciding which service applies; the Mercedes badge or model class alone does not establish that the car has AIRMATIC.

If the car is very low, a tire is rubbing or handling is unstable, stop safely and arrange help. Follow the vehicle’s warning instructions. Avoid repeated driving or height adjustments while the fault remains unresolved.

Parts that preserve the ride

Replacement suspension parts need to match the vehicle’s configuration. Standard, sport and electronically controlled dampers can differ, and parts for one variant should not be selected solely because they fit the mounting points.

When comparing new genuine and compatible branded components, consider the actual part specification and what is included. A complete assembly may include items that a lower-priced component-only offer leaves out.

Some repairs are best considered across an axle to maintain suitable balance, particularly with dampers and springs. That decision should be based on the component, condition and relevant procedure rather than replacing every suspension part as a package.

After work affecting wheel geometry, wheel alignment may be needed. Alignment sets the wheel angles; electronic ride-height calibration serves a different purpose. They should be listed separately when both apply.

A steering complaint can also need steering-system assessment. We keep that distinction clear so the repair addresses the cause of the movement or noise.

Is ABC the same as AIRMATIC?

No. AIRMATIC uses an air-suspension arrangement, while ABC uses hydraulic pressure for active body control. The fitted system determines the components and test procedure. Later combinations and variants also need identification before parts are selected.

Does a sinking car always need new air struts?

No. Air springs, lines, valves and control-related faults can all affect ride height. The source of the pressure loss or incorrect operation needs identifying. A complete strut replacement is appropriate only when the assembly’s condition requires it.

Can alignment fix a suspension knock?

Alignment adjusts wheel geometry; it does not remove play from a worn joint, bushing or mount. The cause of the knock needs inspecting and repairing first. Alignment can then be performed if the work affects the wheel angles.

Do both shock absorbers need replacing?

Matching damping across an axle matters, so a pair may be appropriate. The decision depends on the fitted components, the opposite side’s condition and the applicable procedure. The estimate states the quantity rather than presenting a single-unit price as a pair.

How long does suspension repair take?

The component, access and parts availability determine the schedule. Leak tracing, hydraulic work and electronic setup can take longer than a straightforward mechanical replacement. We confirm the expected collection time after establishing the work required.

Can I continue driving with a suspension warning?

Follow the vehicle’s warning instructions. If it sits very low, rubs a tire, has a broken spring or feels unstable, stop safely and arrange help. A less severe noise still needs prompt assessment rather than assuming it is harmless.
