Mercedes GLA 250 Maintenance Cost by Generation
Compare dated GLA 250 service cost allowances by X156 and H247 generation. See what a written parts, labour and VAT quote must include, and why the fitted gearbox changes maintenance decisions.
A Mercedes GLA 250 maintenance bill in Dubai depends on the car’s generation, the work actually due and the scope of the written quote. The figures below are dated planning ranges retained from this page’s earlier version, not a verified current tariff. An oil and filter visit was listed at AED 450–650, brake pads at AED 700–1,000 and a transmission-fluid job at AED 800–1,200. Those figures did not record a complete parts-and-labour scope or VAT basis. Identify your vehicle by VIN and ask for the final payable amount before approving any work.
Identify your GLA 250 generation before budgeting
The GLA 250 name spans different vehicles. A market listing or registration year can blur the changeover, so the VIN and equipment record matter more than a badge or a generic model-year search. The first-generation X156 and second-generation H247 do not have the same transmission in the Mercedes-Benz examples below.
| Vehicle to identify | Documented example | Why the distinction matters |
|---|---|---|
| Earlier X156 GLA 250 | Mercedes-Benz’s 2020 US specification lists a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. | Its fitted gearbox, fluid specification, service items and parts must be checked before a DCT estimate. |
| Newer H247 GLA 250 | Mercedes-Benz describes the new GLA 250 with M260 2.0-litre engine and eight-speed 8G-DCT in its launch material. | An older seven-speed fluid quote should not be transferred to this car without checking its configuration. |
The earlier Mercedes-Benz specification and new-generation technical description document particular markets and dates. They illustrate why the two generations cannot share a blanket gearbox interval. A UAE car, an import, front-wheel-drive or 4MATIC version may have different equipment or paperwork. The workshop should decode the VIN and use its applicable maintenance sheet and service history.
Do not confuse the petrol GLA 250 with a GLA 250 e plug-in hybrid or an AMG GLA. Their powertrains and service requirements are separate. If the registration simply says GLA, check the actual derivative before accepting a quote built for this article’s petrol model.
Read these dated prices with clear scope
Budget review dated 29 September 2026. The amounts below came from this article’s older copy. They are not a live MercGarage price list, market average or promise of a final bill. Their original VAT treatment was not recorded, so they are neither verified VAT-inclusive nor verified VAT-exclusive. The old text also did not say whether every line included all parts, labour and consumables.
| Earlier AED planning allowance | Old description | New quote must specify |
|---|---|---|
| 450–650 | Engine oil and filter | VIN-compatible oil specification and quantity, filter, labour, inspections and VAT |
| 700–1,000 | Brake pads | Front or rear axle, pads, sensor, disc condition, labour and VAT |
| 200–450 | Inspection or diagnostics | Scope of tests, scan and diagnostic labour, reporting and VAT |
| 800–1,200 | Transmission-fluid replacement | Fitted DCT, correct fluid, filter or parts, service procedure, labour and VAT |
The old page also gave AED 900–2,800 as a broad “regular maintenance” amount. That number mixed unlike visits, so it is not a meaningful price for a defined operation. The AED 300–600 “AC gas recharge and cleaning” package is not retained as scheduled maintenance. Refrigerant service needs a reason and a system-specific diagnosis, as explained below.
Ask for an itemised, dated estimate that shows the before-tax amount, each applicable VAT line and the total payable. The UAE Federal Tax Authority gives the standard VAT rate as 5%. For arithmetic only, a quote expressly priced at AED 1,000 before VAT would add AED 50 and total AED 1,050. This example does not alter the unknown tax basis of the historical ranges.
Compare quotations using the same VIN, service record and task list. One garage’s oil-only amount cannot be compared with a visit that includes due brake fluid, filters and an unrelated repair. Confirm whether the price covers one axle, one battery, a complete fluid operation or merely a diagnostic starting point. Any additional work found later deserves a separate explanation and approval.

Use the car’s service record for intervals
Service A and Service B describe maintenance visits, but the letter alone does not establish every item due for every GLA 250. The instrument’s ASSYST PLUS reminder, the owner’s information and the vehicle-specific maintenance sheet should be read alongside dated invoices. Mercedes-Benz says its VIN-specific workshop information retrieves the relevant schedule and that a newer car’s service display reflects operating conditions.
The old article asserted Service A every 10,000 km or year, Service B every 20,000 km or two years, a universal DCT fluid service every 60,000 km and spark plugs at 40,000 km. Those exact figures are removed as blanket UAE instructions. They may differ by model, market, year, powertrain and service history. A workshop should show the applicable item and due basis before adding it to the bill.
Check the reminder against completed service records
Start with the dashboard’s exact maintenance message and the last completed visit. A reminder can be due by time or distance, and a reset alone is not evidence that an oil, brake-fluid or filter operation was carried out. Check invoice descriptions and the digital or physical service record. If the previous owner has no records, identify the gap and agree which checks can establish current condition.
- Record the VIN, displayed service message, mileage and registration details.
- Find the date and mileage of the last oil, brake fluid, filters, plugs and gearbox service that were actually documented.
- Ask which items are due now, which are inspections and which are recommendations for a later visit.
- Keep a separate line for repairs found during inspection so maintenance is not confused with diagnosis.
For an imported GLA, a US service page’s mileage may not match the UAE vehicle’s equipment and programme. Converting miles to kilometres does not make a foreign schedule authoritative for a different car. Use the manual and Mercedes service data that match the VIN.

Identify the fitted dual-clutch gearbox before service
Both documented generations use a dual-clutch transmission, but the earlier seven-speed and newer eight-speed units are not interchangeable labels. An invoice should name the fitted unit and show the applicable fluid, filter or other required parts, labour and checks. Asking for “GLA 250 gearbox oil” without identifying the car invites a misleading price or procedure.
Separate a scheduled fluid job from shift diagnosis
A maintenance record may show that a DCT fluid operation is due. The service sheet for that specific gearbox decides the interval and procedure. A rough shift, warning, delayed engagement or leak instead calls for diagnosis before authorising a fluid change. Fluid is not a universal repair for a mechatronic, clutch, electrical or mechanical fault.
Describe when the behaviour occurs, including cold or warm operation, low-speed manoeuvres or a particular gear. A technician can then assess the warning and stored information, fluid leaks, relevant live data and mechanical condition. A scan or reset alone does not identify and repair a failed part. Do not continue driving if power delivery becomes unsafe or the manual instructs you to stop.
- Confirm whether the job is genuinely due maintenance or response to a symptom.
- Request the gearbox identification and manufacturer-matched fluid and parts.
- Ask whether the retained AED 800–1,200 allowance covers filter components and all labour.
- Have diagnostic findings and any repair quoted separately from a scheduled fluid service.
A 4MATIC vehicle may also have drivetrain components outside the front transaxle service. The estimate should not imply that one DCT fluid line covers every unit or automatically includes other driveline work. Use the actual equipment list and maintenance sheet to decide what is due.

Quote brake work from the measured condition
The old AED 700–1,000 pad allowance did not identify the axle or include a measured disc assessment. Front and rear wear can differ. A quote should specify compatible pads and wear sensors, whether the discs remain serviceable, the labour and the tax amount. If the discs or caliper need work, ask for the measurements or findings and a separate line.
A brake warning or noise is not a pad invoice by itself. A brief squeal can have several causes, whereas sustained grinding, a changed pedal or reduced braking needs immediate attention. Stop safely and arrange professional help or recovery if braking is impaired. The Mercedes brake service page
Do not apply lubricants to pad or disc friction surfaces to quiet a noise. Brake components, wear limits and the suitability of any disc machining depend on the fitted system and measured minimum thickness. A proper inspection should establish whether a part can remain in service, be repaired within specification or must be replaced.

Check cooling performance before any refrigerant work
Air conditioning may struggle in Dubai traffic, but a routine refrigerant refill is not the answer to every cooling complaint. Describe whether cooling is weak at idle, while moving, from one side only or after a specific period. A workshop can check cabin airflow, filter condition, controls, fans, temperature behaviour and the refrigerant circuit. The exact test depends on the symptom and fitted system.
Low refrigerant can be a sign of a leak, but weak cooling can have other causes. Refrigerant handling requires appropriate equipment and specifications. Ask for the findings, any leak repair and the correct charge procedure before approving a recharge. Cleaning, a cabin-filter replacement and a refrigerant operation are separate jobs with different evidence and cost.
A seasonal visual check can be useful, especially before heavy summer use. It should not be sold as automatic gas top-up or a guarantee against AC failure. If there is an unusual odour, leak or electrical symptom, describe it rather than booking a fixed “gas and cleaning” package.
Budget separately for findings beyond scheduled maintenance
Battery, tyres, suspension and electronics affect ownership costs but are not automatic replacements at an annual visit. Ask for a test or measurement and a reasoned quote. The old page’s “watch out after two years” battery-life rule and claims that Dubai dust necessarily accelerates brake wear were too broad to rely on for a particular car.
Test a weak battery before authorising replacement
Slow starting, low-voltage messages or intermittent equipment can involve the battery, charging system, connections or vehicle use. A battery test and charging assessment guide the next step. The replacement estimate should identify the correct specification, labour and any vehicle-specific setup or registration. A test can also avoid replacing a healthy battery when the actual issue lies elsewhere.
Keep tyre and suspension findings on separate lines
A tyre quote should show size, load and speed rating, tyre age, balancing and any alignment work. Uneven wear may prompt a suspension or alignment inspection but does not prove a particular part has failed. A knock, pulling or unstable handling deserves a safe professional check, especially after an impact. If steering or stability feels unsafe, stop and seek assistance.
For a noisy wheel area, the cause could be a tyre, brake, bearing or suspension component. Reporting the speed, surface and turning direction helps diagnosis, while replacing parts from a generic “common failures” list wastes money. The same principle applies to electronic warnings. Record the exact message and behaviour before a technician tests the relevant circuit or system.
Compare written GLA 250 quotes on equal terms
A useful quote lets you decide whether work is due, what will be done and what you will pay. Before contacting a workshop, gather the VIN, mileage, latest invoices, service reminder and any symptoms. Sharing the same details with each provider makes the replies comparable. A low headline figure may simply cover a narrower visit.
- Identify the X156 or H247 generation, engine, drivetrain and fitted gearbox.
- List due service operations and evidence for any condition-based repair on separate lines.
- Specify part approval or fitment, fluid specification, quantities and labour.
- Show diagnostic fees, exclusions, VAT treatment and final payable total.
- Agree how additional findings will be explained and approved before work begins.
Keep the invoice and service record after completion. They help the next technician avoid repeat work and make future comparisons more useful. If the work was a repair, ask what finding was confirmed and what checks showed that the symptom was addressed. A maintenance counter reset documents neither a completed repair nor a successful diagnosis.
Use two concrete scenarios to test estimates
Consider a GLA with a documented recent oil service and a reminder for a different due item. Paying for another oil change simply because a package lists it may duplicate work. Ask the workshop to show the date, mileage and maintenance instruction behind each item. If a previous invoice is incomplete, clarify what can be verified and what remains uncertain rather than assuming the work was done.
In another car, an oil visit may coincide with a brake warning and weak AC. The service quote should still distinguish the oil operation from brake safety inspection and cooling diagnosis. The latter findings may lead to further repair estimates, but neither problem is automatically fixed by the scheduled visit. This separation makes it easier to approve urgent work, defer optional items and understand why the final bill differs from the initial allowance.
Price alone cannot establish quality. A quote with a named fluid and defined operation is more informative than a vague “major service” package. Equally, a higher amount may reflect due extras or new parts, so compare the lists before assuming it is excessive. Ask for plain explanations of the differences.
Common questions about GLA 250 maintenance costs
Is one price valid for both GLA generations
No. The X156 and H247 have different documented GLA 250 engine and DCT configurations. The exact VIN, parts and due work set the scope. The historical ranges here are planning figures with unverified VAT treatment.
When should my GLA 250 gearbox be serviced
Check the fitted seven-speed or eight-speed DCT, the vehicle-specific maintenance sheet and recorded previous work. The old 60,000 km statement is not a universal interval. A shift fault needs diagnosis rather than an automatic fluid job.
Should the AC gas be refilled each service
No. If cooling is weak, describe when it happens and have airflow, controls and the refrigerant system assessed. A measured need and appropriate leak work should precede refrigerant handling.
Do Service A and B include brake pads
Inspection of brake condition can be part of a service, but worn pads and discs are condition-based work. A written estimate should identify the axle, measured findings, compatible parts, labour and VAT.
Are the AED figures inclusive of VAT
The older page did not record that fact. The dated ranges are not verified selling prices. Request a current quote that states its before-tax amount, VAT and final payable total.
What if a warning appears before service
Read the exact message and the manual’s direction. A serious brake, steering or power-delivery concern may require stopping safely and arranging help or recovery. A routine service booking or reminder reset does not resolve an unsafe fault.
Discuss your GLA 250 service and itemised estimate
MercGarage in Al Quoz can review your VIN, service history and symptoms, then explain the due maintenance and any separate findings. Ask for the parts, labour, exclusions and VAT in a written estimate. If the car is unsafe to drive, arrange assistance or recovery instead of travelling to an appointment.
